PKI/SF established a
momentous relationship with various national and international NGOs and
enjoys an excellent reputation because of its credibility, honesty and
transparency. Besides providing state-of-the-art kidney treatment to
ailing humanity, PKI/SF has very serious concern over misery of flood
affectees of Sindh. For this purpose, it was devised that a flood-relief
operation must be started on emergency basis in Sindh province.
Relief operation was
started on August 27, 2011 and continuing to date.
Pakistan Kidney Institute
(PKI)/Shifa Foundation (SF) has taken initiative to join flood relief
activities in Sindh province with understanding and collaboration with
local NGOs such as PIMA, SAACH and AMAN. Base camp was established in
Mirpur Khas (Sindh), where President PIMA Mirpur Khas Dr. Tariq Arain
has donated his office (40,000 sq ft) for base camp office and a
warehouse.
Due to worse security and
flood situation in Sindh, it was planned that relief activities would be
performed through mobile ambulances operational with Doctors, paramedics
and dispensers to cover large area around. IMANA, PKI/SF and PIMA are
supporting clinics and relief activities to date where logistics are
supplied by SAACH and AMAN. Medicines of Rs.399608.00 have already been
provided to PIMA.
Realizing the need of clean water, and prevention of water-borne
diseases, PKI planned to purify the infected water through filters and
aqua tabs. And for this purpose, two filtration plants have been
purchased with a generator, mounted on mobile Suzuki van and has started
supplying clean water. Each affected family is provided with one water
cooler (20-liter capacity), with a packet of aqua tabs for added
purification. Purchase of more filtration plants is in progress.
IMANA and FIMA (Federation
of Islamic Medical Associations) has donated a maternal and child care
mobile hospital based in a big bus that is serving with a lady doctor,
LHV and dispenser. IMANA has also donated 50,000$. Besides that,
WHO, UNICEF, UNHPA, WFP and UNOCHA have also committed to donate
250,000$. PKI/SF is starting following clinics supported by WHO, UNICEF,
UNHPA, WFP and UNOCHA. Each of these clinics will be staffed by a male &
female M.O., dispenser, LHV and Nutritionist.
